Crash Bandicoot: Phase 5 Endeavour is a platform game developed by Beenox with some assistance from Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. Endeavour takes place after Crash Bandicoot: Phase 4 and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fuelled. It is also the first free roaming open world Crash game in new series reboot continuity and takes inspiration and gameplay style from Kingdom Hearts series of games.
Taking place after Phase 4 N-Trance who had been watching events from Warp Zone found in previous game decides to unleash his evil scheme/plan across Earth and opens a giant green and black portal from 5th dimension above the Earth unleashing a burst of energy across the world this causes the planet to start moving and being sucked into 5th dimension and the portal starts evolving into a black hole and N-Trances intent is to suck the Earth into his own universe and Crash's universe itself into his universe as well giving N-Trance the power and ability to suck all known universes.
Crash Bandicoot his sister Coco Bandicoot father figure Aku Aku and girlfriend Tawna must save there world and universe before it's sucked inside out and put a stop to N-Trance but also must form an uneasy alliance with Nitros Oxide who is still annoyed at his defeat from Nitro Fuelled.
Gameplay
The player has the ability to play as Crash, Coco and Tawna as they set out from Wumpa Islands and they can swap between the three characters at any given time and during gameplay the player can collect Wumpa Fruit, smash crates, attack enemies and explore the world as much as they like and also gather Crystals, Gems and Relics and also Gem Shards needed to complete and progress through the worlds. Around the worlds Aku Aku can be summoned by breaking open three Aku Aku creates as usual and will protect player characters and also The Viscount can be found at his shop which appears on all worlds to buy upgrades using Wumpa Fruit as currency. Crystals must be gathered along with Gems by breaking crates while Gem Shards must also be gathered as they are needed to fight and defeat N-Trance and Relics can be gathered at a later time but are also needed to defeat N-Trance by completing Time Trails are the only way to collect Relics which are Sapphire, Gold and Platinum all Relics must be Platinum in order to defeat N-Trance but Gems are all silver and Gem Shards can come in any different colour and Crystals stay as there purple colour but coloured gems and crystals do appear mainly at Viscounts shop and he shows them off as display. Bonus rounds and death routes and Warp Rooms do not appear in this game and the game is divided into Acts broken down into worlds though side missions do appear in the game and can be found on all worlds continuing the tradition from Phase 4 which had mini games which were slightly different and by defeating these bosses in side missions they provide knowledge about N-Trance and what he is up to and you also gain Wumpa Fruit from them needed to buy upgrades from Viscounts shop.
Side Missions
♦ Fake Crash and Fake Coco (N.Sanity Island, Wumpa Islands)
Help Papu Papu and native tribesmen stop Fake Crash and Fake Coco from brainwashing Lab Assistants and causing carnage to native tribesmen settlement and also Oogga Boogga.
♦ Pinstripe Potoroo (Port Town, Tasmania)
Rescue Tawna from Pinstripe Potoroo who wishes to marry her and The Viscount also joins you on this adventure as a playable character while Tawna is absent though he is also still at his shop don't forget that.
♦ Nina Cortex (Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil)
Meet Doctor Neo Cortex's niece Nina Cortex and help her escape from the school and watch out for some angry students who are crazy.
♦ Willie Wumpa Cheeks (Von Clutch's Motor World)
Join Ebenezer Von Clutch and Pasadena O' Possum again find and stop Willie Wumpa Cheeks who has stolen his Black Power Gem which is vital for his life and also try out some Wumpa Whimp as well.
♦ Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc (Dragon Realms)
Help Spyro the Dragon defeat Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc as they have teamed to take over the Dragon Realms don't forget to rescue some fairies trapped in ice as well and also Moneybags and The Viscount have teamed up to take on Crash and Spyro for buying things.
♦ Zam and Zem (Toxic Beta, Gasmoxia)
Emperor Velo XXVII has ordered Nitros Oxide to bring Zam and Zem to there side in order for a future potential kart racing tournament help Oxide and defeat Oxide's former friends and make them well friends with Oxide again.
♦ The Evil Twins (Tenth Dimension)
Help The Good Doctor Neo Cortex defeat Victor and Moritz also known as The Evil Twins and stop them from unleashing there evil scheme plus also steal there treasure and also watch out for Evil Crash and Evil Coco as they will try and halt your journey.
Worlds
Wumpa Islands
Explore N-Sanity Island, Wumpa Island and Cortex Island with Crash, Coco and Tawna defeat various native enemies to Wumpa Islands and also Lab Assistants break open crates collect Wumpa Fruit, Crystal, Gem, Relic and Gem Shard also help Papu Papu and Native Tribesmen defeat Fake Crash and Fake Coco. Confront Doctor Neo Cortex and Uka Uka in a brand new machine he has created called Mecha-Bandicoot at the ruins of Cortex Castle once defeated you can progress to the next world or relax at Bandicoot House and you can also help Farmer Ernst pick Wumpa Fruit from Wumpa Trees and help him smash moles.
Port Town, Tasmania
Tawna has been kidnapped by Pinstripe Potoroo who wishes to marry her adding more problems to be dealt with The Viscount steps in and joins Crash and Coco and has Moneybays step in and run his shop in his absence. Crash, Coco and The Viscount must avoid Lab Assistants, Angry tourists and natives and they also must rescue Tawna. Break open crates and also collect Wumpa Fruit, Crystal, Gem, Relic and Gem Shard. Fasty and Rilla Roo challenge the company to race around Port Town in go karts once they are beaten you can either progress to the next world or relax at The Viscounts mansion it's entirely your choice and you can also go fishing and take a boat around Port Town and explore it.
Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil
Explore Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil, Crash, Coco and Tawna do the usual thing by breaking crates collecting Wumpa Fruit and must gather Crystal, Gem, Relic and Gem Shard while also avoiding angry students and Lab Assistants. Madame Amberley must be confronted and defeated and is the headmistress of the Academy and you must also help Nina Cortex and meet her for the first time and help her escape from Academy and also has desires for world domination and also wants to reunite with her uncle once this is completed you can relax at Academy speak to Nina again and reveals her uncle used to attend Academy as well and reveals some childhood secrets about Cortex, Brio and N.Gin.
Von Clutch's Motor World
Journey to Von Clutch's Motor World and help Ebenezer Von Clutch and Pasadena O' Possum stop overrun brainwashed visitors, lab assistants and park drones and smash crates to collect Wumpa Coins the currency of this area and also Wumpa Wimp can be found and can be used to restore health and Crystal, Gem, Relic and Gem Shard must be collected as well. Willie Wumpa Cheeks must also be stopped as he has pinched Black Power Gem which is Von Clutch's life source once that has been completed Crunch Bandicoot must be confronted and once he is defeated the brainwashing comes to a halt and everybody is free from it's control. You can also speak to Crunch who has once again travelled through time thanks to his metal arm and Crystal embedded inside it and he formed an alliance with N-Trance though the purpose of this is yet unknown. Wumpa Coins can be used at The Viscounts shop and you can also visit Chick Gizzard Lips and Stew as they cover and report and keep track of you in this area.
Dragon Realms
Visit the Dragon Realms via a portal from 5th Dimension and help Spyro the Dragon, Hunter and Bianca get rid of Lab Assistants and Gnorcs and free the realm from darkness as it is controlled by Dark Gems and then confront the former Dragon Elder Red and defeat him and also collect Crystal, Gem, Relic and Gem Shard and smash vase's and treasure chests to collect Gems and collect butterflies to replenish health and Gems are currency of this area and can be used at Moneybags shop as The Viscount does not have a permit to sell in this area. Ripto and Gnasty Gnroc have also teamed up and you must help Spyro defeat them and free fairies imprisoned in ice once Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc are defeated speak to them and Crunch will appear gain and then disappear revealing he manipulated them. You can also go to Professor's Lab and help him and Elora build a Portal to Crash's universe.
Toxic Beta, Gasmoxia
Head to Gasmoxia the homeworld of Nitros Oxide via Coco's spaceship and collect Crystal, Gem, Relic and Gem Shard and break crates and collect Wumpa Fruit and meet Nitros Oxide and try to form an alliance with him after defeating him and then help Oxide try and bring Zam and Zem to his side and recruit them Emperor Velo XXVII's potential future kart racing tournament. Upon departing Oxide is now your ally and agrees to help Crash, Coco and Tawna defeat N-Trace and feel free to explore Toxic Beta and embrace Gasmoxia's views.
5th Dimension, Hyperspace Temple
With Coco's spaceship fly towards the portal and enter 5th Dimension blast crates and collect Wumpa Fruit and Crystal, Gem Relic and Gem Shard and fly toward giant Hypersapce Temple and confront Mega Mix a creature from not far off future a combination of Doctor Neo Cortex, Doctor N. Gin, Tiny Tiger and Dingodile fused together. Upon defeating Mega Mix the creature will return to it's own time and Crunch appears again and also must be fought for one final time upon defeating Crunch his metal arm and Crystal embedded inside will be damaged resulting in him being trapped in this time. N-Trance appears and destroys Hyperspace Temple and has taken on a giant form and using Coco's spaceship and with assistance from Oxide who has now arrived in his ship they battle N-Trance across time and space eventually wearing him out and beat him near an asteroid belt. Crunch threatens to beat N-Trance to death you have the chance to speak to both N-Trance and Crunch and learn from both that N-Trance met Crunch in his own time and gave him the ability to time travel allowing Crunch to move freely through time resulting in him being brainwashed in previous game by Cortex and N. Tropy. Crunch has good intentions but was being used by N-Trance the entire time as a puppet for his own evil scheme and the laws and nature of time travel send Crunch once again disappearing and going back to his own time and Crash, Coco and Tawna's memory of meeting Crunch is erased as they will meet him in the near future though engrained in there hearts they know and have a feeling that they will meet him.
Escape the destruction of the portal once N-Tranced is defeated with Oxide and return to your own universe though you still have the chance to explore 5th Dimension just so you know.
DLC Tenth Dimension
Using Coco's machine which is now powered up and working you can travel to Tenth Dimension and finally find N-Trance and defeat him but you must also collect Crystal, Gem, Gem Shard and Relic in this area as well and only Crash and Tawna are playable in this world as Coco stays behind in your universe. You must also help Good Doctor Neo Cortex defeat Victor and Moritz also known as The Evil Twins and stop them from plotting an evil scheme and also watch out for Evil Crash and Evil Coco they will create hurdles along the way.
Upgrades
Upgrades can be found at The Viscounts shop and can be purchased there you can level up Crash, Coco and Tawna as you progress though the worlds as you level up you become juiced up meaning you become more powerful you can use Wumpa Fruit as a currency in some worlds to buy upgrades though in some worlds you have to use the currency that is native and from that world to buy upgrades. Plot
Not to long after the events of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Crash Bandicoot his sister Coco Bandicoot and his girlfriend Tawna Bandicoot with whom he has rekindled his relationship and also Aku Aku are relaxing outside the Bandicoot House having a picnic when a sudden black and green portal opens up in the sky and in outer space above the Earth and the portal releases a sudden burst of energy across the planet and this allows the Earth to slowly be pulled into the portal thus turning it into a black hole. Crash, Coco and Tawna witness the sky getting darker and lab assistants suddenly appear on N-Sanity Island and look even more powerful and are also corrupt brainwashed into serving some other power. Aku Aku suspects this is the work of Doctor Neo Cortex and Uka Uka and orders Crash, Coco and Tawna to investigate and find out where they are so they can defeat them as Crash and company explore Wumpa Islands they arrive at the end of Cortex Island and see Cortex and Uka Uka near the ruins of Cortex Castle and somehow Cortex and Uka Uka managed to escape from there predicament in previous game and Cortex unleashes his new mechanized robot he has created called Mecha-Bandicoot and uses it to attack Crash and company only to be defeated upon being defeated Cortex and Uka Uka reveal they have nothing to do with the portal or the brainwashed lab assistants and suspect some other force is behind it and use Mecha-Bandicoot to escape and fly off. Crash and company depart Wumpa Islands via one of the native tribesmen boats and head to Port Town in Tasmania where they continue there investigation where they find more corrupted lab assistants plus angry tourists and natives they are soon challenged to a go kart race by Fasty and Rilla Roo upon beating Fasty and Rilla Roo the gang leave Port Town and head out to Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil encounter angry students and lab assistants and Madame Amberly herself upon her defeat the trio journey to Von Clutch's Motor World where they must help Ebenezer Von Clutch and Pasadena O' Possum get rid of the lab assistants at the park they soon encounter and find out Crunch Bandicoot is behind the lab assistants being brainwashed and Crunch is time travelling yet again thanks to the power crystal inside his metal arm and the trio fight and must defeat Crunch.
Aku Aku interrogates Crunch upon his defeat and Crunch refuses to tell the voodoo mask who is actually helping him and disappears into a vortex to escape there quest soon takes them to Dragon Realms via a portal created from 5th dimension allowing the heroes to travel to another dimension and there they must help Spyro the Dragon, Hunter the Cheetah and Bianca defeat the former Dragon Elder Red and save the Dragon Realms from darkness they also encounter Crunch again who manipulated Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto into teaming up. Before they can speak to him Crunch quickly makes his escape and Aku Aku begins question why was Crunch good before and now bad. Crash, Coco and Tawna return to there own universe and head into outer space via Coco's spaceship and leave Earth to asses the situation and by now it's getting far worse as the portal is slowly sucking Earth into 5th Dimension they head to Gasmoxia in hopes they can form an alliance with Nitros Oxide much to there dismay Oxide is still annoyed at them after what happened previously when he was defeated as Oxide challenged Earths inhabitants to a kart racing tournament.
After a fight and much persuasion Oxide agrees to join Crash and company and in separate spaceships leave Gasmoxia and head to 5th Dimensions portal inside the 5th dimension they are only allowed to explore a portion of it near an asteroid belt where a giant hyperspace temple can be found Oxide decides to keep back and Coco's spaceship lands inside where Crash, Coco and Tawna get out. Inside the hyperspace temple Crash, Coco and Tawna walk and see Crunch and near him is a giant creature a fusion of Doctor Neo Cortex, Doctor N. Gin, Tiny Tiger and Dingodile known as 'Mega Mix' Crunch breaks the creatures chains and Mega Mix is released and battles the heroes who after a lengthy battle defeat Mega Mix who starts to fade away and returns to his own time as Mega Mix had been brought to this time thanks to Crunch luckily enough Mega Mix won't remember the incident as the laws of time forbid it though engrained in it's heart something did take place.
Crash, Coco and Tawna battle Crunch yet again and defeat him for one last final time and Crunch's metal arm breaks and Crystal embedded inside it shatters Crunch is now standard in the past and now cannot return to his own time. Crunch kneels to the ground his mind corrupted with darkness and evil having been used a puppet by a greater power the heroes go to Crunch and Aku Aku tries one final time to get information from Crunch though the name N-Trance is what he tells them something they have encountered on there long journey but who is this N-Trance and what is his intentions luckily enough they did briefly meet N-Trance before as he was hiding in Warp Zone awhile back just watching events unfold now N-Trance has unleashed his evil across our universe and the Earth is being sucked into 5th Dimension perhaps even our universe will be sucked into it too.
A loud rumbling sound soon appears and vibrates hyperspace temple causing it's walls to start to crumble and a giant yellow robotic hand rips the structure apart and the heroes and Crunch are floating helplessly in space with a gigantic egg shaped cyborg looking at them it's N-Trance and he's ready to take on the insects who vow to foil his plans. Using the remnants of hyperspace temple Crash, Coco and Tawna fight back against N-Trance and are able to knock him back in time to get inside Coco's spaceship and re-join Oxide and fight against N-Trance through time and space N-Trance can move freely through time creating vortex's but the laws of time forbid any events to be undone what happens is what must happen and cannot be undone.
N-Trance is overwhelmed by how these individuals are fighting back and destroys Cocos spaceship and badly damages Oxides spaceship leaving heroes and Oxide drifting through space and they fall onto some asteroids and N-Trance reduces himself to there size and creates multiple copies of himself making this fight be one to the death upon fighting all of the copies they get to real N-Trance and pound there way into him and N-Trance falls to the ground but vows not to give up he sucks up universes and will suck up ours. Crunch arrives and attacks N-Trance and rips of his arm which is circular and contains a clock inside it like a fob watch and smashes his swirling circle and proceeds strangle N-Trance but Aku Aku demands Crunch to stop and drops N-Trance to the ground who sends Crunch back to his own time by opening a vortex thus Crunch is gone forever and can no longer return. Crash, Coco and Tawna's memories are soon erased of ever meeting Crunch but engrained in there hearts they know one day they will truly meet him and Crunch's memories are also erased to as he has returned to his own time. N-Trance struggles to escape and a red vortex opens up and N-Trance manages to escape to Tenth Dimension. The portal in 5th Dimension starts to close and releases pressure and matter allowing Earth to drift back into orbit the heroes and Oxide get into his spaceship and manage to exit 5th Dimension and return to there universe safely and foil N-Trances plans and save Earth and universe.
Oxide drops off Crash, Coco and Tawna back on N-Sanity Island and flies off back to Gasmoxia and at Bandicoot House Coco tells Crash, Tawna and Aku Aku she can a build a machine capable of travelling to Tenth Dimension to capture N-Trance and Coco was able to obtain a sample of 5th Dimension portal and believes it can be synthesised to power the machine and Aku Aku orders Coco to build the machine and Crash throws down a brown sack and pulls out and holds Crystal, Gems, Relics and Gem Shards and this gives Coco an idea she can use these to power machine but she first needs to build it and then hugs her big brother while Tawna kneels down and kisses her boyfriend on the cheek and Crash winks and does a thumbs up to the screen.
DLC Plot
Coco has just finished building her machine which will be capable of sending Crash and Tawna to Tenth Dimension after completing the finishing touches she decides to stay behind while the machine now powered up sends Crash and Tawna to Tenth Dimension and Coco and Aku Aku can only pray and hope they return safely. Upon arriving to Tenth Dimension they are inside a twisted version of Bandicoot House which belongs to Evil Crash and Evil Coco luckily enough an Evil Tawna does not exist in this universe and as they leave this twisted place they are confronted by Evil Crash and Evil Coco and manage to beat them though upon there journey they certainly create problems along the way.
Crash and Tawna realise they are on Wumpa Islands but they are a twisted and evil/gloomy place compared to where they are from they eventually find Doctor Neo Cortex's castle upon entering they find out he is not bad but good in this universe Crash and Coco are bad and the roles are reversed Good Cortex has stop Evil Crash and Evil Coco from causing world domination problems but events seem different as Good Cortex shows Crash and Tawna that they are not the only arrivals in this universe as N-Trance is also in this universe along with The Evil Twins Victor and Moritz though Good Cortex tells Crash and Tawna that The Evil Twins originate from there universe and Good Cortex wants to stop The Evil Twins and asks for Crash and Tawnas help and also wants to steal there treasure. Upon beating Victor and Moritz N-Trance can be seen from distance on a rocky platform floating on the sea badly damaged but still alive and pulls Crash and Tawna to him on the platform. N-Trance tells Crash and Tawna they should not of followed him and proceeds once again to create multiple copies of himself and knowing his world domination plans have failed him vows to destroy Crash Bandicoot forever and once and for all.
With the fight being similar to last time N-Trance is slightly weaker his power slowly dwindling from him and this allows Crash and Tawna to figure out where the real N-Trance is and beat him to a pulp this enrages N-Trance as he destroys the platform on him and creates a swirling tornado in the air in an effort to gain the upper hand but Crash and Tawna overwhelm him and beat him and send him flying into air and landing near Evil Bandicoot house where Evil Crash opens his door and sees N-Trance and thinks he is a boiled egg and proceeds to eat his brains out with N-Trance screaming and knowing he is dying N-Trance accepts his death though it's an unsatisfying end. Crash and Tawna say goodbye to Good Cortex and leave Tenth Dimension and are brought back to there universe by Coco and she embraces both her big brothers return and Tawnas and Aku Aku is pleased that N-Trance is finally defeated and hopes that all evil in the world will be gone for now but senses that another adventure is near to take place.
Meanwhile Doctor Neo Cortex and Uka Uka land Mecha-Bandicoot on a hyperspace temple in outer space and meet up with Doctor Nefarious Tropy alongside Doctor N.Gin and Doctor Nitrus Brio and Uka Uka questions what there next evil scheme could be and Cortex reveals he has been secretly creating a genetically enhanced super-bandicoot but it's lacking a power source and N. Tropy reveals Crystals, Gems, Gem Shards and Relics that Bandicoots have been collecting are vital power source that can be used to power this super-bandicoot. Cortex agrees and orders a new space station to be constructed and Uka Uka flies off to find an old friend as she has elemental power capable of destroying Earth.
Epilogue
I would like to give Slingobingo a shutout for Crash Bandicoot: Phase 4 which inspired me to completely reconfigure this whole idea into a new one I have not disrupted his original work but have continued the story in this game and moved the whole story arc into a new direction and created a universe in the process by using old characters and reusing them this means events will span out differently and another story and game can take place. Please note that Nitro Fuelled takes place after Phase 4. Phase 5 Endeavour takes place after Nitro Fuelled and just because old characters appear does not mean those old PS2 games will take place they can be used as references only this is a whole different universe.
